Sun in Libra

2018 | for symphony orchestra (2.2.2.2. 4.2.2.1. 2perc./timp. str.)

Sun in Libra is a short, energetic symphonic dance, in the vein of Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story or Borodin's Polovetsian Dances. (With its bright, lively syncopations and quintessentially American harmonic and melodic language, it owes quite a bit to Bernstein in particular.) It's meant to evoke the classic traits assigned to people born under Libra (as I am): sociable, idealistic, and refined, though occasionally prone to indecision or indirectness. I'd love the opportunity to write more of these Zodiac-themed dances someday; if you're interested in an expanded set (either for symphony orchestra or another instrumentation), please reach out via my contact form!
